Lehner starting goalie Sept? Good luck. GMTM trades Neuvirth for Johnson, a head scratcher of a trade.
Lehner .247 .924 21 games
Neuvirth .227 .924 32 games |

Really wasn't a head-scratcher at all.
Neuvirth was about to be UFA.
Johnson had reasonable contract, and 1 more year of term.
We needed a warm body in net to drive the tank.
So we could get a top two pick in McEichel sweepstakes

Yep, otherwise, Arizona might have gotten Eichel instead of Buffalo. Eichel vs. Strome ....hmm..... |

Bury Neuvirth in the minors for the tank, or bring up AHL goalie.
??? Johnson 1 year of term $1.3M
Neuvirth Philly $1.6M |

Didn't Enroth get traded because he was winning games for the Sabres? |

Neuvy would have had to pass through waivers, someone would've claimed him.
And we would have lost him. And he doesn't fit the GMTM goalie size requirements.
6 feet 5 inches. |

Neuvirth forced the trade. He ripped the team quite badly on his way out of town. And said clearly he didn't want to be here because it's not the way the game should be played, you should always put the best team you can out there, blah, blah, blah. |

Did Toronto trade both of their goalies, and bring in a guy with a 3.71GAA/.875SV% to be the starter?
not even close to the same |

Both teams tanked. There, I said it.
Both made smart moves to create future assets by moving out pieces that made them worse for the short term. Buffalo may have been a bit more blatant, but not by much.
Yeah, Toronto media criticized Buffalo for it and some idiots even tried to make Toronto's rebuild seem somehow better, with the "losing with integrity" slogan being the dumbest. What do you expect? Even Toronto fans admit the T.O. media is full of hack jobs, complete morons, and aholes. |

Toronto tanked from February to April whereas buffalo tanked for two full seasons. there is a big difference between 30th place with 69 points and 30th place with what like 54 points.
Leafs played a lot of Sparks down the stretch to "see what they had" which i believe is partially true, but they let him suck for more games than a team normally would. They also tried out lesser rookies ant sent guys like Connor brown back to the minors to do it.
Either way, rebuilding is fine for both teams but the new lottery rules make tanking way less valuable. 30th place has about a 50 percent chance of picking fourth. |

Btw buffalo has a zero percent chance of making the playoffs. The best thing they have going for them is the super clever blog titles on HB. That is rough. |

I'm not sure why Lehner is being so heavily endorsed by Garth. Other than the fact the Sabres traded a #1 so he has to be good.
His stats to date have been mediocre at best. .914 save. 2.80 GAA. He has also shown an inability to stay healthy. If being "ginormous" is the key to stopping pucks they have quite a find. But it is not. If it was Lindbach would be starting somewhere not being brought in to seal a tank job.
The Sabres are an up and coming club but their biggest question mark is in goal. |

Leafs traded him because he was a UFA, hence why he's in Florida now |
